From open learning spaces to tailored classrooms

At GO! Atheneum Comenius in Koekelberg (Brussels), Beddeleem reconfigured large open learning spaces using more than 500 m² of JB 2000 partition systems. The result: smaller classrooms that support the school’s current teaching approach and can adapt to future needs.

The school building originally featured large open learning spaces where several classes were taught together, sometimes with up to one hundred pupils in a single room. In practice, this arrangement no longer adequately supported the school’s current teaching approach. The school therefore decided to divide these spaces into separate classrooms for groups of around twenty pupils.

Using glazed and solid JB 2000 partition systems, Beddeleem completed the reconfiguration without major demolition work or structural alterations.

Complete delivery within a tight schedule

As the interior fit-out contractor, Beddeleem manufactured, supplied and installed the partitions, while coordinating the technical adaptations and subcontractors. All work took place between 3 July and 31 August 2026, ensuring the school was ready for the new academic year.

On level -1, partitions reaching up to four metres in height were installed. The high spaces also required particular attention to acoustics, which are essential for speech intelligibility and concentration in the classroom.

A school environment that adapts to changing needs

Evolving teaching methods, pupil numbers and uses call for adaptable school spaces. The JB 2000 partition systems can be dismantled, relocated and reused at a later stage. This allows future layout changes while retaining existing materials. It reduces the need for new purchases and can significantly lower costs over the full service life — the total cost of ownership.

Accessories such as whiteboards that hook onto the partitions, screen brackets and acoustic panels provide further opportunities to integrate the partitions into the learning environment.

Beddeleem had already installed JB 2000 FLUSH partitions during the school’s original construction. With this new project, we continue to shape a flexible school environment that supports today’s teaching practices and can adapt again tomorrow.
